We may be the first people in the history of kitchen renovations to have our contractors start *ahead* of schedule. We had them down as starting tomorrow morning, but last night at 9 pm our contractor called to confirm that we were on for this morning. I said, um, ok, so we spent last night packing up the last boxes, and this morning at 7.50 a crew showed up on our doorstep. By the time I got home, they had finished demolishing everything but the multiple layers of flooring -- cabinets, appliances, soffits, and a small wall were all gone.
And thanks to Jackie and Pam at RetroRenovation, our cabinets have a new home. I didn't realize it, but there's apparently a niche market of people who are in love with mid-century steel cabinets. I posted the cabinets on the RetroRenovation forums, someone emailed me, and today she took all the cabinets away, to replace the ones from her mother's kitchen that were in too bad shape to save. And I'm thrilled that they're not going to a landfill.
That's so great! I was unaware of that subculture myself, but now I'm kind of obsessed!
